Lutheran Augustana Center To Close In 2018, Laying Off 286 Employees


NYU Langone Health filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the New York State Department of Labor on December 15. The notice indicates the company will close its Lutheran Augustana Center for Extended Care & Rehabilitation on June 30, 2018 and lay off 286 employees.

Business Closing

The Lutheran Augustana Center provides physical therapy, skilled nursing, hospice care and pain management to the Brooklyn community. The center at 5434 Second Avenue in Sunset Park was established in 1908.

Employee separations will occur on June 31, 2018. The affected employees are represented by the Local 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the Federation of Nurses/UFT Local 2.
