Laurel, Maryland Man Pleads Guilty To Distribution Of Child Pornography


This week, it was announced that 59-year-old Charles Bertsch of Laurel, Maryland had pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography. According to the plea agreement, FBI agents in Maryland initiated an investigation into Bertsch after several law enforcement agencies downloaded child porn via a file-sharing network from IP addresses linked to Bertsch. During an interview with law enforcement, the defendant admitted that by connecting his computer and downloading such images, he was enabling others to download the child pornography from his hard drive.

A forensic examination discovered that the defendant had more than 100,000 images and 2,000 videos of child pornography. The defendant will now be required to register as a sex offender. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 31, 2019. At that time, Charles Bertsch will face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Further details have been made available here.
