Lanham Man Arrested In Connection With 2009 Cold Case


Around 11:45 p.m. June 2, 2009, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 9000 block of Continental Place. At the scene, the responding officers found four people who had been shot. One of the victim, Shai Caldwell, 19, of Windflower Way in Bowie, was pronounced deceased several hours later. The three other victims survived their injuries.

Prince George’s County Cold Case Unit detectives charged Larry Recio, 27, of Lanham in this case based on evidence and information from witnesses. Recio is currently being held on unrelated charged in the Hazelton Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia, detectives said.

Larry RecioOn the night of the incident, the victims were attending a graduation celebration. Detectives believe Recio was in an ongoing dispute with several men who was in attendance at the event. Caldwell was not an intended victim, detectives said.

Recio has been charged with first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder.
