La Crosse Area Family YMCA Lays Off More Than 500 In Wisconsin Due To COVID-19 Closures

This week, the La Crosse Area Family YMCA submitted a WARN with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The letter explains that the company has temporarily laid off a large percentage of its workforce in response to the temporary closures mandated by state legislatures. The duration of the closures and layoffs remains unknown. The company is still offering emergency early childhood care and school age care at both facilities.

On March 17, the company notified 524 part-time hourly workers that the facilities would be closed. On April 2, it notified 21 full-time exempt directors and 17 full-time hourly employees that they were being laid off. Their last day worked was April 3, 2020.

The letter goes on to say that the company’s response with regard to staffing will change as responses to the pandemic continue to rapidly evolve. The La Crosse Area Family YMCA promises that it will pay all earned wages and agreed upon benefits at the time of layoff.
