Maryland State Police say a Nissan passenger vehicle driven by an intoxicated man collided with a trooper’s vehicle in the northern area of Caroline County.
Approximately 1:44 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Shane Hansley was conducting a traffic stop at Route 313 and Bridgetown Road, when a Nissan vehicle struck his patrol vehicle. Hansley was outside the vehicle conducting a drunk driving investigation, when the incident occurred.
After colliding with the state police vehicle, the Nissan continued traveling in the same direction. A short time, troopers caught up with the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the driver who was identified as 56-year-old Ronnie Neal Smith of Camden Wyoming, Delaware.
Troopers arrested Smith for driving under the influence and cited him for possession of marijuana less than 10 grams. He was also issued multiple traffic violations, including driving while license suspended.
Smith is being held in Caroline County on a $10,000 bond. The state police vehicle sustained minor damaged and not injuries were reported.
