Howard County Police Identify Driver In Fatal Collision


Howard County Police are investigating a fatal collision that took place Saturday night in Ellicott City.

Around 11:08 p.m., a 2003 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Route 29 at the ramp to eastbound Route 4, when the vehicle left the highway and struck a light pole and tree, according to police. The driver was ejected from the vehicle was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police believe the factor in the collision was excessive speed.

Two other vehicles were damaged due to the light pole falling into the roadway. No other injuries were reported. The ramp from northbound Route 29 to eastbound Route 40 reopened about two and a half hours later.
