How To Apply For Energy Assistance In Morningside, Maryland


In today’s declining economy, thousands of Marylanders are having difficulty paying their monthly utilities. When you find yourself in need of assistance, you can always rely on the Maryland Energy Assistance Program and Electric Universal Service Program. These governmental programs are designed to assist low-income homeowners and rental tenants pay their heating and energy bills.

In order to qualify for these programs, you must complete and submit an application (see below link for application PDF) and fall within the income guidelines (see below). The Maryland Energy Assistance Program funding is normally available on November 1st and the Electric Universal Service Program funding is available on July 1st. Each applicant approved will receive funding once within the fiscal year. Once your application is submitted, you may need to wait for up to 45 days for the application process to be completed.You will need to verify your identity, income, physical address, and energy supplier, by including a copy of your photo I.D., all household member’s social security card, paycheck stub or SSA, DSS, VA, and (or) unemployment benefit letter. Also, include a copy of the most up-to-date utility bill and rental lease, along with the application. If you fail to include all these documents, your application will not be processed.

To qualify, residents do not need to have active service. If funding is not utilized to pay for your current electric bill, it can be applied to the past-due balance, or future electric bill. You must remember that this is only once-a-year funding, but if you need assistance in preventing utility disconnects, you may apply for the Utility Service Protect Program. This program is designed to assist low-income Maryland residents create a feasible monthly payment plan, which will be based on estimated annual costs, minus the annual funding.
