Health Insurance Enrollment Events By Health Connect Scheduled For This Weekend


For Prince Georgians, who are not enrolled in the Affordable Care Act, enrollment events are scheduled this Saturday, December 10, 2016. The deadline to change an existing health care policy or enroll in the 2017 health plan ends January 31, 2017. After this date, residents will only be able to enroll if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.


Affordable Care Act Enrollment

Three enrollment events will be held this weekend in Prince George’s County at various locations. The events are administered by the local Department of Social Services. The Prince George’s County Health Connect is authorized to enroll residents in the Maryland Health Connection (MHC). Independent insurance brokers and certified navigators will be onsite to answer questions and assist in the enrollment process.

Proof of identity and employment documents are required to participate in the in the event. Acceptable documents include:

  • Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • Government ID
  • Student Visa
  • Paycheck Stub
  • W-2 Tax and Wage Statements

Adults between the ages of 18 to 64 are required by law to have health insurance. Uninsured residents will face a tax penalty up to $700 for adults.

Financial assistance, tax credits and discounts, is available to Prince Georgians, but only available through the Maryland Health Connection. Nine out of 10 Marylanders received financial assistance last year to lower their premium.


Participants who enroll by December 15, 2016, will begin coverage by January 1, 2017. For those who enroll after this date, but before January 31, 2017 will begin coverage on March 1, 2017.
