Gun Barrel City Man Charged In Connection With Defrauding 36 Companies


U.S. Attorney Louis D. Lappen announced Wednesday a Texas man was indicted on aggravated identity theft, mail fraud and wire fraud charges.

Judge And JuryThirty-six-year-old Michael Glenn Barnes of Gun Barrel City, Texas falsely represented himself as a variety of prominent professional athletes and musicians to at least 36 companies from 2015 to 2017. He agreed to provide publicity and promotion for manufacturers in exchange for free merchandise, according to court documents.

Barnes targeted approximately 36 companies, including 11 in the United States and four foreign countries.

The defendant is facing a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment and a $10,250 fine.
