Frederick Co. crash identified: Tanker truck driver killed in fiery

The driver of a tanker truck got killed in a fiery crash in Frederick County in Maryland last weekend. The Maryland State Police said 58-year-old Ronald Leroy Heiston Jr. of Smithsburg was driving a tanker truck. The tanker truck was filled with 8,650 gallons of gasoline from Manassas, Virginia, to Taneytown, Maryland. The car went off the right side of the road and crashed into a tree, further leading it on fire. The incident occurred near noon on March 4 on northbound U.S. 15, north of Rosemont Avenue. Although the fire crews had arrived immediately, Helston was declared dead until then!

Due to the fire caused by the crash, five vehicles and six homes were on FB fire. U.S. 15 was closed in both directions for a short time. The Maryland State Police stated that there had been no injuries or deaths, however, from the incident. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration said that road crews are still inspecting a section of U.S. 15 on Thursday. Even five days after the crash, the detectives are still trying to collect evidence from the scene.
