U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente announced Tuesday a former secretary and treasurer of International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 684 pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
Thirty-nine-year-old Tamika Bullock or Portsmouth admitted to diverting money from an account that was specifically utilized to assist distressed and sick members of the labor union. From January 2016 through October 2016, Bullock embezzled $24,600 from the union, according to court documents.
To avoid detection, Bullock made false statements about the balance in the “sick and distressed” account. She reported balances up to $15,000 higher than the actual balance. She utilized the money for her own personal benefit.
The embezzlement charge carries a five-year prison term. Bullock’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 15, 2018.
