Former LSU women’s basketball player Danielle Ballard has passed away at the age of 29, according to multiple reports. The university released a statement on Thursday, July 13, 2023, confirming the tragic news.

Ballard, who played for the LSU Tigers from 2012 to 2015, died in a “tragic accident,” the university said. According to Fox News, she was struck by a vehicle in Memphis, Tennessee, and later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

Ballard was a standout player during her time at LSU, where she helped lead the team to the Sweet 16 in 2014. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2012 and earned All-SEC honors in 2014 and 2015. She finished her college career with 1,564 points, 722 rebounds, and 284 steals, according to USA Today.

After graduating from LSU, Ballard played professionally overseas in countries such as Greece, Israel, and Spain. She also played in the WNBA for the Indiana Fever in 2016 and the New York Liberty in 2017.
