U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu announced Monday a former executive at Providence Hospital was sentenced to 18 months in prison for theft of $391,600.
Sixty-year-old Deborah A. Morrison of Bethesda, Maryland previously pleaded guilty to transportation of money taken by fraud. Morrison had access to the institution’s checkbooks and frequently reviewed the statements for that account.
Morrison wrote about 140 checks from December 2009 through December 2015 from the hospital’s bank account containing dues payments. She illegally endorsed the checks with a “signature stamp of the former president of medical staff.” She then deposited the checks into a bank account she controlled, according to court documents.
