Erickson Living announced this week that it would open a new continuing care retirement community in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The Baltimore-based retirement community developer has agreed to acquire the Northern Virginia Training Center at 9901 Braddock Road from the state of Virginia. The 78-acre site will be converted into an age-restricted retirement community.

In a news release, the company said its Greenspring community in Springfield is 99 percent occupied. Erickson Living communities provide assisted living, skilled nursing care and independent living to seniors.

The Northern Virginia Training Center, operated by the state’s Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services, provided community-based services for intellectually and developmentally disabled residents until it closed in 2016.
