U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu announced Friday a District man was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman walking in Northeast Washington in 2009.
Thirty-six-year-old Dashayn James Slade of Washington D.C. pleaded guilty in July 2017 to attempted first-degree sexual assault. Slade grabbed the victim from the Rhode Island Avenue overpass, pulled her over a wall, across railroad tracks and sexually assaulted her near a pile of railroad timber, according to court documents.
DNA evidence identified Slade as the attacker several years after the incident took place. In January 2016, he was arrested and has been in custody ever since.
In addition to the prison sentence, Slade was ordered to register as a sex offender and placed on supervised release for the rest of his life.
