Chipotle Mexican Grill opened its third location in Towson on Thursday. The 2908-square-foot restaurant at Towson Commons features a variety of Mexican foods that are prepared in open kitchens daily.
The Towson-area locations at 6314 York Road and 801 Goucher Boulevard offer customers customizable options unlike other similar restaurants. The ingredients derive from local sources to enhance the economy.Following an E Coli outbreak in 2015 that effected stores in 14 different states, including Maryland, the company was plagued by food safety concerns.
A joint investigation with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the outbreaks were finally declared over in February 2016. The agencies were unable to find the source of the illness.
Upon addressing the food safety concerns, Chipotle officials improved an eight-step food safety process that includes an electronic tracking system for ingredients, an advisory council and enhanced food safety training, according to the company’s website.
Chipotle joins a CVS Pharmacy, two-story LA Fitness, Kyodai Rotating Sushi Bar and Boho Nation, a women’s clothing store in a newly renovated space at Towson Commons.
The location features indoor and outdoor dining spaces, seating a total of 73 patrons. According to company officials, the restaurant will employ 37 people, including students.
The grand opening gave the first 500 customers a free IZZE sparkling drink with the purchase of an entrée.
