Cardinal Logistics Management Corporation filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Virginia Board of Workforce Development on October 2. The notice indicates that the Concord, North Carolina-based company will lay off 69 employees in Salem, Virginia.
Cardinal Logistics is a leading transportation and logistics company. The company cited the reason for the layoff was due to an “unexpected termination of a major business contract.”
The Roanoke Times reports the company lost a large contract with Kroger. Most of the employees impacted by the layoff are drivers. Cardinal said in a statement that efforts would be made to reassign them to other positions.
The impact date is scheduled for December 2, according to the filing.
