On Wednesday morning, state officials said a boater in the southern end of the Chesapeake Bay went missing.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police joined forces with other departments to search for the boater just north of Point Lookout State Park.
MDNR Police said on Twitter that three other boaters have safely made it to shore.
In 2016, 17 fatalities related to boating incidents were recorded in Maryland and 21 fatalities was recorded in 2015, a record high for the state.
