Binder & Binder filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the New York State Department of Labor on September 12. The notice indicates that the firm will close its Long Island City office on December 11 and lay off 90 employees.
Binder & Binder, a family-owned business of Social Security Disability advocates, was founded in 1975 in New York. In 2014, the firm filed bankruptcy in an effort to pay its creditors about $50 million. On October 19, 2016, the firm completed a reorganization plan under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
The closure will impact 90 employees, with the layoff date scheduled for December 11.
In another WARN notice filed in the Long Island Region, Binder & Binder cited it would lay off 100 employees at its Hauppauge, New York office. Those employees will depart from the company on December 11.
