In Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman was a sleazy criminal lawyer. In Better Call Saul, he is a deceptively incompetent lawyer who works out of an old rundown office and hustles with some low-rent unlicensed investigators. Better Call Saul is the prequel to Breaking Bad, and will probably span several seasons.

The series details the life of Jimmy McGill, the man who becomes Saul Goodman. Many elements from Breaking Bad will be appearing in Better Call Saul. The show seems to indicate that Jimmy has a slightly more wholesome side than Saul does. In particular, Jimmy (and by extension, Breaking Bad fans) are aware that his future as Bernie Goodman is an unhappy one and he seems very much aware of this fact.

The story revolves around an insurance salesman named Jimmy McGill. He has a mediocre job where he always feels as if he’s being neglected by his partner, Chuck. He is also in debt to a loan shark named Gus Fring.

Jimmy McGill meets Saul Goodman, who takes advantage of his disability, and convinces him that he can get him out of debt if he becomes his business partner and helps him grow the business. Jimmy may have some morals, but it all comes down to making money—and quickly, too. The first season of Better Call Saul consisted of 10 episodes. The show also has many short scenes between each episode, which helps bring it closer to the Breaking Bad universe.

Season 2 of Better Call Saul will consist of 13 episodes. The series was renewed for a second season December 11, 2015, with the season premiere set to air on February 15, 2016.

Empire gave it 4/5 stars, calling it “the perfect show for Breaking Bad lovers who need their fix.” IGN gave it a 9.4, writing “”Better Call Saul” is a skilful, beautifully written drama that follows an underwritten character….the show amounts to a deep dive with some added bells and whistles.
