Award-Winning Horror Series The Exorcist Returns In A Big Way

Some of the scariest moments on television are back for another round. The Exorcist, one of the most iconic horror series in history, is returning to FOX with a new season premiering this fall. Although it left viewers wanting more after just nine episodes last year, fans will be pleased to know that there will be an entire season of terror coming their way in 2021!

Meanwhile, Morgan Creek Entertainment seems to have shut down rumors it’s involved with a project in the franchise as well. The group retweeted its own message from 2015 that reads: “For the record, we will never attempt to remake THE EXORCIST.”

The release date of The Exorcist Reboot:

It is scheduled to be released in 2021. In December 2020, Blumhouse Productions and Morgan Creek announced that the reboot was changed to a “direct” sequel which will be directed by Halloween’s David Gordon Green.

The plot of The Exorcist Reboot:

A young girl is possessed and a priest, Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller) comes to help. The exorcism doesn’t go well and the priest dies in the process, which leaves only Merrin (Max von Sydow), who is an expert on exorcisms but also has personal demons of his own.

He works with Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), mother of Regan; Sharon Spencer (Kitty Winn); Lieutenant William Kinderman (Lee J. Cobb); Burke Dennings’ wife Peggy Dennings; Reverend Joseph Meehan; Father Bill O’Malley  (William O’Malley). Together they work towards freeing Regan from her possession by the demonic force known as Pazuzu.

We are told that this exorcism is different from other exorcisms because it has been updated for modern audiences – taking up to four months to film over 100 hours of footage without cutting back or forth between scenes.

There’s more violence involved than in previous exorcists movies; the episodes are longer than some of its predecessors’. We’ll find out if these changes will make exorcist more interesting to modern horror audiences.

The exorcist reboot plotline is a story about  Father Tomas Ortega and Father Marcus Keane, two men who are on set for the exorcism of 12-year-old Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair). The exorcists hope that they will be able to save Regan from her possession by Pazuzu – an ancient Mesopotamian demon.
