Amazon Set To Take Over Pinnacle Logistics Operations In Baltimore, Maryland

Amazon is in the process of building its own domestic airfreight shipping network. To achieve that goal, Amazon has begun taking over the operations of its contractor Pinnacle Logistics. The company will be taking over Pinnacle Logistics’s Chicago Rockford International Airport resulting in the latter laying off more than 1,400 workers.

However, it is believed that the 1,416 impacted employees will be absorbed by Amazon and added to Prime Air, the company’s aviation arm. Amazon will carry out a similar transaction in the Baltimore area.

At the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Pinnacle Logistics provides Amazon with cargo loading, unloading, and support services. As Amazon takes over, Pinnacle will be laying off 1,609 employees.

It is anticipated that those employees will be absorbed by Amazon’s Prime Air aviation arm on or around April 14, 2020.
