AEP Files WARN In Ohio To Retire Conesville Plant & Layoff 83


The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services received a WARN from AEP on March 20, 2020. The notice alerted of a layoff and closure of the Conesville Plant’s Unit 4 at 45701 CR 273 in Conesville, Ohio. The layoff would impact 83 workers.

Business Closing

The layoff is expected to be permanent, according to the WARN. Employee separations are expected to begin on May 31 or “within the fourteen day period beginning on that date.”

American Electric Power (AEP) operates facilities in Ohio, Texas, Michigan, and Kentucky. The closing of the coal-fired 1,590-megawatt power plant’s Unit 5 and 6 was previously scheduled for May 2020. For unknown reasons, the company pushed the closing forward to 2019.

The impacted hourly workers have bumping rights and hold various positions, including Plant Support Specialist Associate, Energy Production Supervisor, Planner Sr., Maintenance Supervisor, Administration Supervisor, and others.
