A-League of Legends MMO Is In the Works
League of Legends or LoL has been around for over a decade under Riot Games. While it isn’t the first mobile battle arena or MOBA game, it is one of the most popular ones. The annual League of Legends World Championship is the game’s equivalent of sports championship seasons. The LoL World Championship gathers millions of viewers and millions worth of prizes are given during this period. That being said, Riot Games have been recently releasing other games based on LoL.
It is an excellent way to branch out and gather new players to expand the Riot Games brand. Not everyone will play LoL, so why not branch out to something that people will be hooked into. A good example is Valorant, a team shooter game that is also one of the biggest gaming genres. Valorant has very little to do with LoL, but these other games are based on LoL. There is Team fight Tactics which uses game play mechanics similar to Auto Chess.
There’s also Legends of Runeterra which is a digital collectible card game. You get to collect cards related to LoL and use them to play against other people. Finally, League of Legends: Wild Rift is the same game but for mobile devices and phones. That’s right; you can now play LoL on the go although you need to use an unranked smurfs account and gather up Champions from scratch. Speaking of Wild Rift, the game is still relatively new, so it isn’t complete than LoL.
There’s also the unnamed LoL fighting game that is currently in development. However, no new news has been released about it. This leads us to our notice which is that Riot Games announces a LoL MMO in the works. This was sent out by a tweet from Riot Games’ vice president Greg Street.
The tweet says
“My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need! My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.
PS We’re hiring”
Several fans have asked and replied to the tweet asking what the game was, and Greg Street confirms that it will be an MMO. We should just take everything with a grain of salt since there have been no visual materials released as of now. No artwork and trailer has been out so the project may or may not be released anytime soon. Several other responses relate to the fact that if players could create their characters or play using the established LoL Champions. However, no confirmation has been stated so far so we’ll have to wait.
It is interesting if this LoL MMO will be released. There are a lot of speculations on whether or not the game would be free. All Riot Games are free to play, and you are free to pay for some parts such as buying Champions and unlocking skins. This could be an exciting concept for the MMO where players can play for free and pay for items and skins that they can use. An MMO can be a big undertaking because it will probably be set in a vast world with 3D graphics. We have to wait and see for more confirmation and details released by Riot Games in the future.
