A travel delay can happen without a moment’s notice, leaving travelers stuck with very little to keep them occupied. During long delays, travelers turn to their mobile devices or a book to keep them entertained until the flight schedule returns to normal. However, the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will soon be offering travelers a much healthier alternative to sitting. A full-service gym is expected to open at the end of January.
The ROAM Fitness Gym will provide travelers with a variety of exercise equipment, including free weights, stationary bikes and treadmills, to relieve their boredom and stress. The gym will also offer rental workout apparel and sneakers, along with showers.
The gym was scheduled to open in the fall of 2016, but construction setbacks delayed the opening. ROAM Fitness, an Oregon-based startup, plans to open and operate 20 gyms, which will all be located inside of airports, within the next five years.
The gym will be open in a new corridor of the BWI Airport and expected to service about 100 travelers daily. The new corridor, with a new security checkpoint, will offset the major growth spurt in the area and facilitate more international flights.
The gym will be a great addition to the bike rentals and walking trails that are already offered by the airport.
