Armando Christian Prez “Pitbull”, a popular Cuban-American artist, is considering opening a charter school in Baltimore.
According to WBFF-TV, Pitbull will be seeking approval for opening a Sports Leadership & Management (SLAM) charter school in Baltimore in the near future. Once the application is approved, construction will begin and the school could be open by fall 2018.
SLAM schools have a 96 percent graduation rate and existing countrywide, including Atlanta, Georgia and Miami, Florida.
The rapper says he believes Baltimore needs and could benefit from SLAM.
Governor Larry Hogan, a big supporter of charter schools, says charters have been successful in creating success stories, where public school systems have failed.
Hogan supports Pitbull in his effort to bring SLAM to Maryland.
“We’re happy to have the opportunity to take a look at them opening a charter school in Maryland.”
