Open Works, a Baltimore-based integrated makerspace, is launching a startup pitch competition and business boot camp. Participating entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to win a $10,000 grand prize, and $5,000 second place prize and $1,000 runner-up prizes.
The pitch contest dubbed EnterpRISE Venture Competition is accepting entries from Maryland, Delaware, D.C., Virginia and Pennsylvania-based companies that design and manufacture products and prototypes utilizing innovative fabrication technology offered at Open Works.
Those interested in participating must submit their application to Open Works by September 8. The first round of the contest on September 22 entails a two-minute pitch to be presented before a panel of judges. Ten companies will be selected to advance to the next round. Those chosen will participate in workshops and mentoring over a six-week period, at which time they will return before the judges on November 17.
The $10,000 grand prize and six month Open Works membership will be awarded to the winning company.
The Abell Foundation, TEDCO and Baltimore Development Corporation are funding the competition.
