On Monday, the Maryland University of Integrative Health announced that it would open a school of naturopathic medicine next year.
Naturopathy is an alternative medicine takes a more natural approach to improving health, treating illness and preventing diseases. The new school will be the first of its kind in the mid-Atlantic region.
Naturopathic practitioners combine the use of exercise, organic foods, acupuncture, healthy lifestyle and treatments from other areas of complementary medicine, including homeopathy, herbal therapies and Ayurveda.
More states beginning to adopt licensing laws for naturopathic practitioners. Maryland, Idaho, Alaska, California, Connecticut, Kansas and Utah are among the 19 states that license naturopathic physicians.
