Maryland State Trooper Dragged By Suspect’s Car, Same Suspect Bit Another Trooper

Maryland State Police said a trooper attempting to make an arrest on Thursday was dragged by the suspect’s vehicle for a short distance.

Thirty-four-year-old Vincente A. Kyle of Landover was charged with attempted escape from a law enforcement officer while in custody, second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and reckless endangerment, police said. Kyle is being held in the Prince George’s County Detention Center awaiting a court appearance.

Around 11:30 a.m., troopers were in the 10000 block of Central Avenue in Largo, working an extra-duty assignment. They were notified that a man wanted on a warrant was in the area. When troopers located Kyle, they approached him, he resisted arrest and ran to his car, police said.

Kyle got into his vehicle and began to drive away. One of the troopers grabbed the door and was dragged across the parking lot for a short distance. Kyle’s vehicle came to a stop when it struck another vehicle. He exited the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

Troopers pursued Kyle on foot and apprehended him only a short distance away. The trooper was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Kyle was being transported from the Forestville Barrack to the Prince George’s County Correctional Center, when he attempted an escape. The trooper acted quickly, a struggle ensued. Backup responded and Kyle was taken to the detention center without further incident.

The trooper was bitten during the struggle and received treatment for the injury at a local hospital.
