The Mad River Bar & Grill in Federal Hill is set to move forward with renovations and a rebranding. The new venue is expected to open within three months, said operating partner David Yike.
Yike declined to describe or name the new concept, but said the current Mad River concept had run its course and a reset was in order.
“The goal is to be open for football season,” Yike said. “We just want to do something a little new and something different. With the exception of Crossbar, there hasn’t been much change the neighborhood – in recent years.”
As one of the longest-running bars in Federal Hill, Mad River will be surely missed. The bar sits along a stretch of Charles Street that also includes Banditos, Ropewalk and Mother’s Federal Hill.
The Mad River chain has locations in Chicago, Philadelphia and New York, where it originated.
The 5,070-square-foot space at 1110 South Charles Street opened in December 2003 and later became a popular spot for the millennial population.
Stalking Horse and Cowboys & Rednecks, both in Federal Hill, have recently launched new concepts. Cowboys & Rednecks Pub became Wayward Southern Bar & Kitchen and Stalking Horse changed its first floor to Whiskey Hill.
