Thursday, a woman was discovered with a loaded handgun at the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The handgun was in the woman’s purse, when it was detected at a security checkpoint.
According to the Transportation Safety Administration, the woman had a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun with 5 bullets in her bag. The woman from Kilmarnock, Virginia said prior to the flight, her son had put the gun there.
The handgun was detected on the airport security x-ray machine. TSA officers have confiscated 16 weapons at BWI so far this year, including this one. A total of 24 guns were confiscated at BWI in 2016 and 16 in 2015.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested the woman, whose name has not been released, on weapons charges.
