Kaydon Ring & Seal, an aerospace, aircraft and locomotive parts maker, will begin the process of closing its factory in Southwest Baltimore in July. Amid the move, the company will lay off a total of 217 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filed with the state.
Layoffs will begin as early as July 13 and happen in four different phases through April 2019.
SKF USA Inc., the parent company of Kaydon, has taken the steps to consolidate its entire workforce. The facility at 1600 Wicomico Street will close and jobs will be moved to Pennsylvania, where the company is based.
Baltimore production is already in the process of being moved to a Hanover plant, as work at that plant is being moved to a facility located in Georgia.
The company previously offered all the employees working in the Baltimore facility jobs at its Hanover plant. The distance between the two plants is approximately 90 minutes.
