Hysteria Brewing Company is Columbia’s newest beer producer, with a slogan that reads “The Mad Pursuit.” The slogan is a salute to “the mad scientists who are constantly driving forward to discover something,” said marketing director Zachery Michel.
Hysteria’s is driven by experimentation and variety. For the past month and a half, the company’s brews were sold at beer festivals in Central Maryland.
Of course, this will all change on July 1, when Hysteria is set to open its taproom and brewery at 9750 Berger Road in Columbia. Severna Park Taphouse will host Hysteria’s debut on Tuesday.
Geoff Lopes, Richard Gue, Jordan Baney and two silent partners are owners of the company. Lopes, Baney and Gue started working together back in 2011, when they opened Vaper’s Knoll in Columbia, said Michel.
The 100-seat taproom will feature a house-made nitro coffee and 11 taps of Hysteria beers. The building’s open-design plan allows patrons to watch and hear the production process without the interferences of windows or walls.
Hysteria hopes to be able to produce 2,400 barrels of beer in its first year, Michel said. The taproom features a crowler machine, TVs, library, multiple couches and board games. The company also has plans to add a take-a-book/leave-a-book program, a vestibule and bike rake in the near future.
Hysteria Brewing Company will open Friday through Sunday from noon to 11:00 p.m. in July. Operating hours are expected to expand after the first month.
