Founder And CEO Of Hammer & Nails Grooming Shop Announces Plan To Expand To Maryland

Hammer & Nails Grooming Shop for Guys, a California-based salon featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, announced Tuesday that it will be expanding to Maryland. The first location in Owings Mills is set to open within the next six months.

The salon will offer shaves, foot care and haircuts to men, which is a service that is becoming more mainstream and in demand every day. The CEO and founder of Hammer & Nails, Michael Elliott plans to expand the business to 250 franchise locations nationwide by 2022, including 10 in Maryland.“No one is delivering male-centered grooming services the way we are,” Elliott said. “We’re still at the ground floor of our development in Maryland.”

Area representative for the franchisor, Bart Butler, said franchise partners are being sought for another Baltimore county site, along with locations in Arundel Mills, Annapolis and Fells Point in Hanover, Columbia, as well as five additional locations in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.

In 2013, Elliott opened his first location, which is also the only corporate owned location, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. He said the idea for the salon came from a 2013 visit to a nail salon designed specifically for women, where he felt out of place. Shops in Miami, Florida; Frisco, Texas; and Folsom, California are scheduled to open no later than this summer.

Since 2015, when the brand was first franchised, it has granted licenses for over 200 shops.

A total of 10 franchised shops are part of the expansion plan, which will open over a span of the next three years.
