Former Bay Community Support Services Employee Sentenced For Stealing $2,000 From People With Disabilities

A former Bay Community Support Services (Bay-CSS) employee who stole $2,628.58 from developmentally disabled adults has been given a two-year prison sentence, with all suspended and 80 hours of community service.

Anita Nelson, 42, of Great Mills stole funds from Bay-CSS residents, an adult residential and day facility for the developmentally disabled. As an operations manager, Nelson was oversaw operations at a number of Bay-CSS’ residential homes.

An audit revealed that Nelson did not follow proper procedures for approving and requesting the withdrawal of funds from approximately six of the residents’ personal accounts. The withdrawals were made between March 16, 2015 and August 26, 2015.

As part of the sentence, Nelson is prohibited from working with a federally funded health care program for five years. She was also placed on two years’ probation.
