Death Investigation Says 30-Year-Old Texas Woman Drowned In Ocean City Beach Sand

Thirty-year-old Ashley O’Connor, of Plano, Texas, was discovered on an Ocean City Beach around 6:00 a.m. Monday morning. The town’s police department released a death investigation on Thursday that suggests O’Connor ultimately drowned in the sand.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said her death was accidental and “caused by asphyxia due to suffocation.

According to police, O’Connor walked on the beach in the area of 2nd Street. It is unclear whether she fell or climbed into the hole voluntarily prior to the sand caving in around her.Ashley O'ConnorIt has also not been determined why the sand caved in around O’Connor.

According to delmarvanow.com, the hole was approximately 30 yards from the high tide line, so it did not reach the hole.

Police have “pretty much conclusively ruled out” that someone else dug the hole with the intention of putting O’Connor in it, spokesperson Lindsay Richard told the publication. It has not been ruled out that the beach vehicle covered O’Connor.
