Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III released a statement Tuesday regarding funding for the Purple Line. The County secured full funding for the critical infrastructure project that will improve transportation and relieve congestion along its 16-mile corridor.
“This is great news for residents of Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, the State of Maryland and the National Capital Region as countless citizens will be positively impacted by the Purple Line and the accessible transportation options it will provide for jobs, education, and recreation along its 16 mile corridor. After years of unnecessary delays, this is welcome news for a project that will create greater access to public transportation, relieve congestion and stimulate job growth and investment.
Now with federal funding secured, no additional time should be wasted in moving ahead with the construction of this vital transportation infrastructure project. I look forward to breaking ground for the Purple Line here in Prince George’s County very soon. This project will create thousands of new construction jobs connecting two of Maryland’s most robust economic corridors for smart and sustainable growth.”
