Bookmakers Cocktail Club announced on Tuesday that it would open a cocktail bar on its second floor. Grey Ghost will offer seating for 30 patrons and be open on Friday and Saturday. Grey Ghost was originally the nickname for the successful racehorse, Native Dancer, trained in Maryland during the 50s.
On Friday and Saturday nights, Bookmakers is generally busy, leaving bar staff with limited time to engage patrons about the bar program.
“The whole idea is you’re getting a more intimate experience with our beverage director, Ryan Sparks, and other bartenders than you are downstairs on a typical Friday or Saturday,” Circelli said.
An official opening date has not been written in stone, but Ben Circelli, general manager, says it will probably be on the same day of the Kentucky Derby, which is May 6.
Bar seating will be available on first come basis, but patrons may reserve seats in advance, as long as they are available. Grey Ghost will feature the Bookmakers dinner menu until about 9 p.m. at which time an exclusive cocktail menu will become available.
Cocktails will feature Japanese whiskeys, barrel-aged gin and a variety of cordials, which is “more esoteric spirits”, according to Circelli.
